Privacy, cookies & your choices

Privacy Policy

Last updated 21 September 2026 ElementLookup.com

Element Lookup is designed to be useful without requiring an account. This policy explains what information may be processed when you use the site, why it may be processed, when third parties may be involved, and the choices available to you.

Quick summary

Privacy at a glance

Accounts No account required

You can browse element guides, lessons, Compare, Trends and the periodic table without creating an Element Lookup account.

Information you send Only what you choose to provide

If you use the feedback form or email us, we receive the information you choose to submit. Name and email are optional in the feedback form. Do not send passwords, payment-card details or unnecessary sensitive information.

Browser storage Theme preference

A small local browser preference is used to remember light/dark mode. Additional cookies or storage may be used only when enabled services require them.

Advertising status AdSense is not inserted by this plugin release

The site is being prepared for advertising. If Google AdSense or analytics are activated, this policy and the consent experience must match the live configuration.

Plain-language summary. Element Lookup does not require a user account and the plugin does not currently insert Google AdSense ad units. Normal website infrastructure may still process technical request data such as IP address, browser details and requested URLs. If advertising or analytics are enabled later, the live disclosures and consent controls must be updated at the same time.

1. Scope and who this policy covers

This Privacy Policy applies to ElementLookup.com and the Element Lookup website experience, including the periodic table, element guides, learning pages, comparison tools, trend tools, downloadable study material and the trust/legal pages linked from the site footer.

In this policy, “Element Lookup,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of ElementLookup.com. The public privacy contact is elementlookup@gmail.com. The site does not invent or publish a legal-entity name, postal address or reviewer identity that has not been verified by the owner.

2. Information you choose to provide

You can use the main educational features without creating an Element Lookup account. If you use the on-page feedback form, contact us by email or use another published contact route, we may receive information you choose to provide, for example:

  • your email address and name, if you choose to include them;
  • the page URL associated with the feedback or request;
  • the feedback category you select, such as an error, unclear explanation, topic suggestion or broken-link report;
  • the text of your question, correction report, suggestion or accessibility request;
  • attachments or screenshots you deliberately send through a separate contact route.

Feedback submitted through the website is placed in a private moderation queue for review. It is not published automatically as a comment, testimonial or public page.

Please do not send passwords, one-time codes, payment-card information, private medical records or other sensitive information that is not needed to resolve your request.

3. Information processed automatically

When a browser requests a website, normal hosting, security, caching and network systems may process technical information needed to deliver and protect the service. Depending on the infrastructure in use, this can include:

  • IP address and approximate network location;
  • browser, device and operating-system information;
  • requested URL, date/time, referrer and response information;
  • security, abuse-prevention, performance and error logs.

Element Lookup uses this information for website delivery, security, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, performance and reliability. The exact infrastructure provider may change over time, and those providers may process request data under their own contractual and legal obligations.

4. Browser storage, cookies and local preferences

Element Lookup uses browser storage to remember interface preferences such as the selected light/dark theme. A browser may retain this preference until you clear site data or change the setting.

Additional cookies, local storage or similar technologies may be used if optional services such as advertising, analytics, consent management, security or embedded third-party functionality are enabled. Where consent is required, those optional technologies should not be treated as consented merely because a visitor opened the site.

For the separate technology summary, see Cookie & Consent Policy.

5. How information may be used

Information may be processed for purposes such as:

  • delivering pages, files and interactive site features;
  • responding to questions, corrections, privacy requests and accessibility reports;
  • detecting abuse, malicious traffic and technical failures;
  • maintaining performance, compatibility and website security;
  • measuring site usage if analytics are enabled;
  • serving and measuring advertising if advertising is enabled;
  • meeting applicable legal, accounting, regulatory or dispute-resolution obligations.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing may rely on consent, legitimate interests in operating and securing the website, steps requested by the user, or compliance with legal obligations, depending on the activity and jurisdiction.

6. Google AdSense and advertising cookies

Current implementation status

The Element Lookup plugin in this release does not insert Google AdSense ad units or a Google publisher ID. The following disclosure is included so the site can be prepared correctly before advertising is activated.

If Google AdSense is enabled on ElementLookup.com:

  • third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to ElementLookup.com or other websites;
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet;
  • visitors can manage or opt out of personalized Google advertising through Google Ads Settings;
  • visitors may also learn about broader industry opt-out choices at aboutads.info;
  • Google explains how information is used in advertising at Google — Advertising technologies.

If additional third-party advertising vendors or ad networks are enabled, they should be identified through the live consent interface and/or this policy, together with links to their privacy or opt-out information where appropriate.

Advertising must remain editorially independent from Element Lookup's scientific content and must not be positioned so that it can be confused with periodic-table controls, Visual Lab controls, quiz answers, downloads or navigation. See Advertising Policy.

7. Consent management for advertising and analytics

When Google advertising is enabled for users in regions where Google requires consent management, Element Lookup intends to use a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP) that supports the required framework and presents the appropriate privacy choices before consent-dependent processing occurs.

The consent experience must reflect the services actually running on the site. A banner or consent record must not claim that a service is disabled if the service is already loading, and the policy must not claim that a vendor is active when it is not.

Where a consent tool is active, visitors should use that tool to review or change the available choices. Clearing browser cookies/site data may also reset locally stored preferences, but it is not a substitute for any legally required consent or opt-out mechanism.

8. Analytics and measurement

Element Lookup may use analytics or performance measurement in the future to understand which pages are useful, diagnose technical problems and improve the site. If analytics services are enabled, they may process identifiers, device/browser information, page views, approximate location derived from network information and interaction events, subject to the configured consent and privacy settings.

This policy should be updated to identify material analytics services when they are actually enabled. Search Console or other aggregate webmaster reports may provide site-performance/search information without requiring Element Lookup to know the identity of an individual visitor.

9. Service providers and sharing

Element Lookup may rely on service providers for functions such as hosting, content delivery, caching, security, email delivery, consent management, analytics or advertising. Information is disclosed to such providers only to the extent reasonably necessary for the service they perform or as otherwise required by law.

Element Lookup does not sell personal information for money. If future advertising or data-sharing practices fall within a legal definition of “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising in a particular jurisdiction, the required notice and opt-out mechanism should be implemented before that processing is relied upon.

Information may also be disclosed where reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, investigate abuse, protect rights or security, or address a legal dispute.

10. Data retention

Personal information is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including support, security, recordkeeping and legal obligations. For example, a correction email or website feedback submission may be retained while the issue is reviewed and for a reasonable record of the resolution.

Technical logs may have separate retention periods set by hosting, caching, security or infrastructure providers. Element Lookup should avoid retaining identifiable information indefinitely when there is no continuing operational, security or legal reason to do so.

11. International processing

Web hosting, content delivery, security, email, analytics or advertising providers may process information in countries other than the visitor's own country. Privacy protections and legal requirements can differ between jurisdictions.

Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, the responsible service provider and site operator should use an appropriate legal mechanism and configuration for that transfer.

12. Security

Element Lookup uses reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to a public educational website, including normal website security, software maintenance and access controls. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

If you believe the site has a security or privacy problem, contact us without including unnecessary sensitive information.

13. Children and student users

Element Lookup is an educational website that may be used by learners of different ages. The site does not currently require visitors to create an Element Lookup account or provide a date of birth to use the educational content.

We do not intentionally ask children to submit unnecessary personal information. If you are a parent, guardian or teacher and believe a child has sent personal information through a contact route that should be reviewed or deleted, please contact us at elementlookup@gmail.com.

If advertising is enabled, the site owner must also review Google's requirements for child-directed treatment and age-related advertising restrictions against the site's actual audience and configuration.

14. Your privacy rights and choices

Depending on where you live and the laws that apply, you may have rights concerning personal information, such as the right to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent or information about certain disclosures. Not every right applies in every jurisdiction or circumstance.

You can also:

  • clear browser cookies/local storage through your browser settings;
  • change the site's light/dark preference;
  • use the live consent/privacy tool when one is provided for advertising or analytics;
  • manage personalized Google advertising through Google Ads Settings;
  • contact us at elementlookup@gmail.com with a privacy request.

We may need enough information to understand and verify a request before acting on it. You may also have the right to complain to a competent data-protection authority where applicable.

15. External links

Element Lookup links to scientific, government, educational and other third-party websites. Following an external link takes you to a separate website whose privacy practices are controlled by that website, not by Element Lookup.

See External Links Policy for the site's external-link policy.

16. Changes to this Privacy Policy

This policy may be revised when the website's technology, advertising, analytics, consent tools, legal obligations or operating practices change. Material changes should be reflected in the “Last updated” date on this page.

In particular, the policy and Cookie & Consent Policy should be reviewed in the same deployment in which Google AdSense, Google Analytics or another material tracking/advertising service is enabled or materially reconfigured.

17. Contact

For privacy questions, requests or concerns, contact Element Lookup at elementlookup@gmail.com. Please include enough information to identify the issue or request, but do not send passwords, payment-card details or other unnecessary sensitive information.

You can also use the general Contact page.
