About Element Lookup

An element knowledge ecosystem, not a fact dump

Element Lookup combines fast answers, professor-style explanation, original interactive models, geography, comparisons, quizzes, printable revision material and explicit scientific provenance.

Who writes Element Lookup

Mohammad Faisal Khan · Founder and Editor

Mohammad Faisal Khan founded Element Lookup and writes, edits and maintains its element guides and chemistry lessons. He also independently owns and runs CalcTypes (calctypes.com), a calculator website built on the same idea: show the method behind a number, not just the answer.

On Element Lookup that means scientific values come from established references listed on each page, predictions are labelled as predictions, unknown values stay unknown, and every page explains why a fact is true rather than only stating it. AI tools help with drafting and code, as described in the AI content disclosure; scientific facts are checked against sources before publication and corrected when errors are reported.

Review status: Element Lookup does not yet have an independent specialist reviewer. Pages are currently written and source-checked by Mohammad Faisal Khan. When subject experts review pages, their names and credentials will be shown on the pages they have actually reviewed.

Editorial promise

  • Answer the obvious question quickly, then teach the reason.
  • Explain what a number means instead of only displaying it.
  • Keep element-specific science rather than forcing every element into an identical template.
  • State model limitations and unusual phase behavior beside the model.
  • Do not replace unknowns with confident-looking guesses.

Scientific integrity

  • Authoritative sources are the basis for scientific numbers.
  • Changing datasets carry a source year or reporting period.
  • Predictions are labeled as predictions.
  • Geographic markers are used only when the data are genuinely geographic.
  • Corrections should update the source record, the normalized value and the teaching layer together.

Accessibility promise

  • Dark and light themes are both first-class interfaces.
  • Controls are designed for keyboard and touch use.
  • Reduced-motion preferences should be respected.
  • Interactive scientific viewers retain a textual or static learning path when full interaction is unavailable.

What comes next

118 element guides are now in the source-reviewed library. Shared interaction components keep the experience consistent, while every guide is expected to develop its own scientifically justified signature story. Element Lookup also connects the library through Compare Lab, the 118-element Periodic Trend Explorer and an Evidence Lens that makes uncertainty visible.

How a new guide is released

Each guide is researched from authoritative sources, checked for scientific exceptions, built with tested shared interaction components, rendered in light and dark themes, tested on mobile, and reviewed for element-specific scientific depth before publication.

How corrections are handled

If a substantive defect appears in one new element, the entire release batch is audited for the same class of problem. Site-wide corrections are moved into shared components where possible and are recorded in the permanent build standard so future elements inherit the fix automatically.
