How the science becomes an interface

Methodology

Last updated 14 September 2026 ElementLookup.com

Element Lookup follows a source-to-interface workflow so that a polished visualization does not outrun the evidence behind it.

Source → normalized field → evidence → QA → interface

  1. Choose an appropriate authoritative or primary-quality source.
  2. Normalize the fact, value, unit, condition and scope.
  3. Record the evidence class and relevant provenance.
  4. Check scientific exceptions, disagreements and uncertainty.
  5. Only then present the information in the teaching interface or PDF.

Atomic and electronic models

Nucleus, shell-count aids, orbitals and material structures are separate teaching objects. Nucleus models preserve the stated isotope counts. Shell diagrams are schematic and are not literal planetary electron paths. Orbital views represent probability distributions; orientation, radial nodes and heavy-element caveats are retained where relevant.

Material and molecular structure

Where a structure is established, Element Lookup may show a reviewed unit-cell, molecular or other teaching representation. A schematic is labelled as a schematic when it is not a coordinate-accurate crystallographic reconstruction. If the macroscopic structure is not defensibly established, the interface shows an evidence state instead of an invented lattice.

Temperature and phase behavior

Phase tracks use one source of truth for the displayed range, regions and transition markers. Solid-solid transitions are kept distinct from melting when scientifically important. Predicted or uncertain phase behavior is labelled accordingly, and an unknown phase path is not filled with fabricated boundaries.

Geography

Natural occurrence, resources, mine production, industrial production, recycling, discovery and research geography answer different questions. Real pins are used only when supported by appropriate location data. Conceptual global layers are used when country pins would mislead. Time-sensitive production data should retain their dataset year or reporting context.

Questions and explanations

FAQs use a direct-answer-first teaching pattern: a short answer, then explanation and a useful memory cue when appropriate. Search data can reveal what learners ask, but it does not determine scientific truth or justify filler questions.

Release QA

Automated source checks, exact-package verification and browser/staging review serve different purposes. A source PASS does not prove the live WordPress result. Interactive changes are checked for dark/light presentation, mobile containment, keyboard behavior, reduced motion, fallbacks and shared regressions.
